60年代にプロとして活動を開始。マイルス・デイヴィス、ジョー・ヘンダーソンらのコンボへ参加。トニー・ウィリアムスの影響を受けた、スーパー・テクニックを持ったドラマー。彼の代表作として、ウッディ・ショウの『ブラックストーン・レガシー』、フレディ・ハバードの『レッド・クレイ』など。
