|
1923年10月17日米国オクラホマ州マスコギー生まれ。ギターを独学でマスターし、43年にプロ・デビュー。翌44年からロサンゼルスへ移住し、チャーリー・バーネットの楽団に加入。45年以降チャーリー・バネット、アーティー・ショウなどのバンドで活動。52年から53年にJATPに加わり、オスカー・ピーターソン・トリオの一員として各国でコンサート・ツアーを行い大きな評価と名声を得る。53年には初リーダー作『イージー・ライク』を録音。抜群のスウィング感覚と安定した実力を示し、長きにわたり白人トップ・ジャズ・ギタリストとして人気を集めた。92年ごろより脳卒中を患い、2004年5月6日に脳腫瘍のため米国サンディエゴの自宅で死去。享年80。 |
